Should I leave blacksmithing?
I have huge problems with making any reasonable g in game. Today I was left with 85g in my pocket... Blacksmithing is a money drain and I get f*** all for all my effort and materials used to lvl it up. Yesterday I used over 120 iron bars to complete bs quest and reward was a receipe for some green pants... This is a quest chain which leaded me to another bs who now wants me to complete 3 q for him. To do this i need 120 mithril bars, 20 iron bars, 5 truesliver and 4 citrine. This is huuuuge amount of mithril. Ok - fair do's he'll reward me with a trinket that allows to summon purple mace (1H) with really decent damage (more than my 2H at the moment). All great but this mace will stay summoned for 1h and cd on trinket is 3h... So I'll have this mace for tanking in instance and after 1h it'll be gone... Selling 120 mithril is like 200g. For this money I could buy myself purple mace on ah without any cd and summoning for 1h All mats for this q are worth around 250g I guess. Now to get all the mats I'll need probably few evenings of grinding... I'm wondering if there's any point in leveling bs any further as all I get from receipes is usually not very usefull (I get better stuff from drops) and it costs a lot of g to lvl up as not all of the materials are possible to grind (high lvl areas, elementals, etc).
Should I drop it (lvl231 or so) and take up another gathering proff? Or just stop leveling it for now, gather ore and sell it on ah to make some g?
Thanks

Re: Should I leave blacksmithing?
Lol my troubles go the other way.
I have 850 g now, and nothing to spend it on. Absolutly no good gear for hunters on AH. Some nice stuff, but Iam not paying 200 g for a blue gun level 36.
Anyways I droped herbalism for enchanting trying to level that so I can enchant my equipment all the time I need it. But then again I realy dont know if that is too good. Thinking about returning to herbalism or skining. LOL cant decide. Thing is two gathering profs + fishing brings in tons of money. I think if I hadnt spend anything that I would have over 1200 by now. With tons of money you can buy all the things you need without bothersome leveling. I think only crafting profession that is realy usefull to have is alchemy. So I wanna kill myself now for ditching 175+ hebalism now

Re: Should I leave blacksmithing?
Keep BS I say, Just dont do those damn quests!!!
you dont need to do those quests!
THe only one you need to do is your weaponsmith quest, you can use wowhead to find out which one that is, I am 99% sure not all the quests are needed as I never did them on my warrior.
Saying that even without doing these quests the mat costs for leveling blacksmith 250-300 and then 350-375 is INSANE
Though mots profs at 350+ in TBC are costly
But I love Blacksmith on my warrior, I love been able to make my own armor while leveling in outlands and I cant wait to do it again in WotLK!
I am wondering myself atm if I should level up tailoring on my priest, there were some nice armor and stuff when TBC first came out but thats all been replaced by gladitor stuff now, which will happen again in WotLK

Re: Should I leave blacksmithing?
I've done this q:
http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=2756
This was a lot of iron to get some poor receipe and next q.
Now I have to do this (as a follow up):
http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=2761
http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=2762
http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=2763
to get to this q:
http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=2765
This is quest called Expert Blacksmith. Not really sure if I need it. Reward is this trinket:
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=8703
You can summon with it this mace:
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=8708
It's great mace but it stays only for 1h and cd is 3h so I could use it only from time to time (final boss in inst?)
Now I'm not sure if I have to have this q completed to progress with my blacksmithing. 120 mithril is a lot of time and a lot of money if I decide to sell it so I'm not sure what to do I have a feeling that I have to do them to progress. After completion of this 3q above I'll be redirected to some other fellow.
Here he is:
http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=2764
I've checked on wowhead and I'll need all of this 3q with 120 mithril to do my q for armorsmith as there's a follow up q from this fellow in Gadgetzan to get further receipes:
http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=2772
http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=2771
http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=2773
Again - huuuuge amount of mats required but without this receipes I won't be able to craft armor for armorsmith q
I'm not sure if armorsmith is any good. I might go for weaponsmith. On the other hand there's more nice weapon drops in instances than armor...
Here's q for armorsmith:
http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=5301
And here's one for weaponsmith:
http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=5302
Not sure what way I should go. I can strart this q straight away.
To get weaponsmith q completed I'd need:
x32 Steel bar
x56 Iron bar
x56 Mithril bar
x16 Gold bar
x12 Lesser Moonstone
x1 Black pearl
x8 Shadowgem
x3 Solid grinding stone
x4 Thickleather
x4 Citrine
x28 Heavyleather
x16 Strongflux
x16 Heavy grinding stone
That's hell lot of mats as well Might be less than all this q to get receipes to complete q for armorsmith though...

You dont need to do that mace quest, I never did it.
you dont even need to do the weapon/armorsmith one, but obviously you want to one of them ^_^
I like weapons because hey pewpew

Re: Should I leave blacksmithing?
I think I'll ditch this 3q then. If this mace was not with 3h cd... Anyway - I might start farming mithril and fish to get some decent amount of g Otherway I never get enough money for my mount at 60 I need to find some way of making money with blacksmithing. I can make iron buckle and rods for enchanters that sell quite well but that's it. Nothing else or if there's anything else (like thrown weapon for lvl35) then I need expensive mats to craft it
The only thing is I need to find zone where I can q and farm at the same time (mithril). Otherway with my leveling pace I'll still be at lvl 40 when you all will go to take down Ilidian Tanaris looks good but I might be bit low for it Ah, we'll see

Re: Should I leave blacksmithing?
atm you dont make money from Blacksmithing xD
at levle 70 you can make some selling the Felsteed and ragesteel set, but not much really.
I heard fishing is good for making money
as for getting mithril and leveling, badlands might be good
That might be more iron than Mithril though cant remember

Re: Should I leave blacksmithing?
You decided on second proffesion yet. I'm ditching enchanting, only question left is what to take up herbalism again or skinning. Ill chek the AH and decide. I know the situation on herbs but leather is mistery.

I've got 283 in alchemy at this stage..
Prices of the potions/elixirs are crap.
You can do for yourself and for the guild but you dont need that many.
I also put lots of potiond into the guild bank - noone was interested ... :/
