Some advice needed please :)

If im honest im not really the type of person to just gank people either, and even when i attempted it the other night (when i forgot about my res sickness lol) it didnt really feel right.

All i'd like is to be able to look after myself when someone has a go at me.

With all the advice you all gave me and with me re~speccing to Frost (which im loving) i felt much more prepared and confident last night for any encounters that were to come.

Typically i didnt see one Alliance player in the 3 hours or so i was on!

heheh I was the same at the begining I'm not a kind of ganker and I never attack lower lvl ally unless he will attack me first. Then I fight back. I also try not to attack people on escort q or with low health but... I was ganked so many times (and corpse camped on few occasions) that when I see ally around my lvl I prefer to attack them instead of being attacked. 8 out of 10 times when I passed ally without getting into fight I was attacked from behind and usually one who opens the fight ends up on top.

I still trust that not everyone is an idiot and when I leave them they will leave me but it's not always the case.

Generally:

1. I don't attack lower lvls unless they attack me but it happend that I was provoked by a low lvl ally and then ganked by his ?? friend hiding around...
2. I don't attack people with low health or on escort q
3. I sometimes attack first when I see people around my lvl but not if they /wave or /hello to me. Chances are they won't attack me
4. I don't corpse camp people unless someone was corpse camping me - then I'll return the favour if possible. It happend before that we gathered our guild members to fight back in STV when allys were corpse camping one of our members.

Sometimes it's really frustrating when all you want to do is q and someone will keep you busy for an hour or so ganking and corpse camping you but it's pvp so I guess I should not complain And it's really hard on warrior as I have no range attack or spells so if I'm immobilized (frost nova, sap, polymorph, fear, roots, totems, etc) all I can do is watch them nuking me down... Intercept has way too long cd for 1vs1 pvp and by the time it's up again I'm usually at 20% hp or below. Pummel doesn't always work either

Many people use the trick called 'fake casting', which means that they start a cast, stop it and cast again. This is to fool other players to waste their silencing attacks and then spamheal away while the silences are on CD

Yeah but pummel and shield bash should prevent them from casting for another 5 or 6s which is not always the case Or maybe it has to be same school of magic? Can't remember

Each silencing effect only silences one magic school at a time but it may be that you or your opponent is lagging and you don't actually silence him even if it may seem like you do.

Doh... and here's the winner I just realized that I have to pummel/shield bash only when opponent is casting spell other way it won't work because it works for only one school of magic so I need to interrupt actuall spell to activate it... And I was wondering why the hell this damn casters are nuking away when I intercept/pummel straight away Learning curve I guess... I feel really stupid now

But this also mean that I can't pummel/bash or interrupt instant cast spells... Is this correct? Unless I pummeled non instant spell from the same school before Ahhh... pummel sucks big time

I think the main problem im going to have more than anything is nerves. If im fighting a mob or npc i have no problem whatsoever. As soon as i know that its another human being controlling the other character, that's when i start to get nervous, panic a bit, and forget what buttons to press and i end up making a complete mess of things when normally i could do it with my eyes shut

Hahaha Well, at least I know why my pummel didn't work with you when we had our duells I just need to pummel you when you cast your spells Oh boy... I still need to learn... a lot...

I know what you mean I'm the same when jumped suddenly by some ally toon I still can't understand why though

I totally understand that!

First person shooters? No problem. Battlegrounds? Great. World PvP? Totally lose the plot.

I guess it's being unprepared or something; in a battleground I hunt people without mercy, but the first time I went into Ashenvale and got jumped it felt like I was having heart palpitations afterwards. It gets better as you get more comfortable with PvP, but it's still really weird.

Oh yes, I remember that feeling from my first Diablo II duel when I played my amazon. When the fight started it felt like my heart was going to pop out of my chest, I was so excited about it It gets better over time, if I get jumped by a rogue nowadays, my normal reaction is something along the lines of "Oh.." /cast war stomp (reset the fight for my advantage) and beat the living shit out of him. That is if I survive the 10 second stunlock

Hmmm this made me think... Maybe I should take whole world as a huge battleground Run around, kill npcs, do quests and hunt down every ally on my way Kinda Alterac Valley style heheheh Then you won't be wondering 'should I attack or not?' In battlegrounds there's no mercy. Why should there be any outside BGs on pvp server? And this probably would help to get rid of this 'surprise' element and heart attacks everytime I'm jumped by some ally I think it's as Anaplian said - we are not prepared for it or have different mind set when questing. In battlegrounds we expect to be jumped and we hunt every ally in the line of sight...

hehehe aye - it's the same with everyone don't worry about that, it gets easier the more encounters you have , but that's why you need a plan - personally I have all my keys arranged so that they are pretty much second nature to the way I play. To a degree if I get jumped I can go into auto-pilot until I recover from the surprise factor, then you kick your plan into gear and see what happens.

In all the PvP games I've played where we had a certain degree of success, we always had a little post-mortem after the fight to figure out what we did wrong and what we might do next time to improve the outcome. Other than that it's practise practise practise practise practise........ ad infinitum

But seriously, I don't know what 'not prepared' means I expect to be ganked and act accordingly. For example when I sit to drink and eat, I put up mana spring totem to get mana back faster, put up a stoneskin totem to reduce melee dmg I take (if rogue jumps on me), sometimes magma totem (pulse AoE to unstealth rogues) etc
